Training Programme on Safe and Judicious Use of Organic Pesticides by Adopting IPM Practices

        A farmer training program on "Safe and Judicious Use of Organic Pesticides by Adopting IPM Practices" was conducted on 11th December 2024 at the SMELC Building, Dakopgre, Tura, Meghalaya. It was organized by HIL (INDIA) Limited, a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, in collaboration with ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tura, West Garo Hills, Meghalaya. The program aimed to equip farmers with sustainable agricultural practices. The event witnessed the active participation of 272 farmers from over 20 different villages of West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills districts of Meghalaya, and was graced by Chief Guest Mr. Budsuk Sungoh, Joint Director of Agriculture, Special Guest Mrs. Elphina Sangma, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Tura and Mr. Bhupendra Hajong, ex-MDC, Zikzak. The program led by Mr. Ashok Kumar (HIL - INDIA Limited) and Dr. Tarun Kumar Das, CTO (ICAR-KVK, Tura), and hosted by Dr. Sanjay Chetry (YP-II, NICRA, ICAR-KVK, Tura), the training emphasized safe and effective use of bio-pesticides, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and practical strategies to enhance productivity while ensuring environmental sustainability.
        HIL (INDIA) Limited, known for its dedication to promoting eco-friendly and affordable agrochemical solutions, played a pivotal role in organizing the program. As part of the initiative, all farmers were provided with safety kits to ensure the safe handling and spraying of bio-pesticides, reinforcing the importance of health and safety in sustainable farming. Through a blend of scientific insights and practical demonstrations, the program empowered farmers with tools and knowledge to improve productivity, reduce chemical dependency, and secure their livelihoods, marking a significant step toward agricultural sustainability in Meghalaya.
