ICAR KVK Namsai was established under the administrative control of NRC on Yak (ICAR), Dirang, on 26th March, 2007 in the Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh. However, on the 15th August 2014, formation of new Namsai District was declared by bifurcating Lohit District. Since than the KVK has been undertaking various farmers welfare centric activities in Namsai district covering Chowkham, Lathaw, Namsai, Piyong and Lekang circles (95.45 to 96.20 E longitudes/ 27.30 to 27.55 N latitudes ). The administrative control of KVK Namsai was later on handed over to ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region w.e.f. 1st April, 2017. The KVK falls under the umbrella of ICAR-Agriculture Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI)- Zone VI, Guwahati, Assam. |
Namsai District of Arunachal Pradesh is situated in the foot hills of eastern part of Himalaya. The District is situated at north eastern most part of the country and lies between 95.45 to 96.20 E longitudes/ 27.30 to 27.55 N latitudes with a geographical area of about 1587 sq Km (approx.). It was carved out of Lohit District in 2014 and became the 18th district of the state. The district is surrounded by Tinsukia district of Assam in the West & South West; Changlang district in the South & South East; Anjaw & Lohit in the East and Lohit in the North. The district has varying altitude ranging from 140 - 177 meters above mean sea level and agro-ecological zones is Sub-tropical reverine, plain flood prone. River Kamlang and Noa Dihing are the o main rivers flowing across the southern part of the district. These rivers cause soil erosion which consequently pose serious problem like flood and water stagnation on the cropping areas. The climate of the district varies from place to place. At foot hills it is quite hot during summer (160C -360C) and moderately cold in winter, but at higher altitude the climate is pleasant during summer season but the winter are extremely cold (50C-250C) and average rainfall is 3500 - 4000 mm.
