Krishi Vigyan Kendra West Tripura was established under ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region in the year 2017 at Belbari, West Tripura District, Tripura. Krishi Vigyan Kendra is an integral part of the National Agricultural Research System, aims at assessment of location specific technology modules in agriculture and allied enterprises, through technology assessment, refinement and demonstrations. Krishi Vigyan Kendra serves as a knowledge and resource centre for agricultural technologies, assisting public, private and voluntary sector in enhancing the district's agricultural economy by giving farm advisories via ICT and other media on a variety of topics of interest to farmers. In addition, Krishi Vigyan Kendra develops and distributes high-quality technological products to farmers. KVK disseminate agricultural and related technologies to farmers and extension workers through training, demonstration and extension programme.

Mandates

  • On Farm Trial: To assess the location specificity of agricultural and allied technologies under various farming systems.
  • Frontline demonstrations: To establish production potential of technologies on the farmers’ fields.
  • Training: Capacity development of farmers, farm women, rural youths and extension personnel to update their knowledge and skills on scientific agricultural technologies.
  • Knowledge and Resource Centre: To work as knowledge and resource centre of agricultural technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector in improving the agricultural economy of the district.
  • Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on varied subjects of interest to farmers
  • Produce quality technological products (seed, planting material, bio-agents, livestock) and make it available to farmers,
  • Organize frontline extension activities, identify and document selected farm innovations and converge with ongoing schemes and programs within the mandate of KVK.

  • Conservation soil and water ecosystem though popularization of climate resilient technology, promotion of organic farming, natural farming, promotion of vermicompost and Biofertilizers etc.
  • Promotion of INM, IWM, IPM and IDM
  • Varietal replacement for field and vegetable crops including crop diversification.
  • Empowerment of farmers, farm women and rural youth through skill development training in agricultural and allied enterprises
  • Production of quality seed, seedling, saplings, spawn as per the demand of jurisdiction areas
  • Providing soil testing, water testing and plant diagnostic services to the farmers
  • Empowerment of farm women in agriculture through value addition and post harvest management of agricultural and allied enterprises
  • Promotion of integrated farming system approach for increasing the farm income
  • Enhancing productivity of horticultural crops through crop diversification
  • Introduction and popularizing of high yielding and biofortified variety of cereals, oilseeds, pulses and horticultural crops
  • Scientific livestock management with appropriate feeding, breeding and health management practices
  • Promotion of suitable pisciculture practices for ensuring higher productivity, production and income.
  • Promotion of farm mechanization
  • Providing timely agricultural information information through using different ICT tools and farm literature
  • Mobilisation of the NGO, farmer's producer Company, SHGs, Start-up through project formulation, training and leadership development
