Field Monitoring Cum Orchard Inspection Programme

The Field Monitoring Cum Orchard Inspection Programme, organized by the ICAR Research Centre for NEH-Region on 9th October 2023, aimed to evaluate project activities and assess the health of fruit trees in the adopted villages of Marngar clusters. Led by the Division of Technology Assessment and Capacity Building, the programme involved field monitoring to identify project trends and patterns and an inspection of fruit trees to detect possible pests and diseases.
During the field monitoring phase, it was observed that farmers utilized banana stems (ITKs) to protect newly transplanted crops from direct sunlight and heavy rainfall. This indigenous traditional knowledge (ITKs) showcases the resourcefulness of local farmers in implementing practical solutions to agricultural challenges, highlighting the importance of integrating indigenous practices with modern agricultural techniques.
Additionally, an inspection programme was conducted to identify pests and diseases that could potentially infest fruit trees. Through careful examination, experts aimed to recommend appropriate management practices to mitigate the impact of pests and diseases on crop yield and quality.

  • Farmers' utilization of banana stems (ITKs) for crop protection demonstrated their innovative approach to agricultural practices, emphasizing the importance of indigenous knowledge in sustainable agriculture.
  • The inspection revealed the presence of pests and diseases affecting fruit trees, highlighting the need for timely intervention to prevent yield losses and maintain orchard health.
The Field Monitoring Cum Orchard Inspection Programme provided valuable insights into project activities and the health status of fruit trees in the Marngar clusters. By identifying project trends, patterns, and potential challenges, the programme facilitated informed decision-making and timely interventions to ensure project success and orchard productivity.
Furthermore, the programme underscored the importance of collaboration between researchers, farmers, and local communities in implementing effective agricultural practices and managing pest and disease outbreaks sustainably.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. B. P. Singh (Head of Division), Dr. N. Uttam Singh (Senior Scientist & PI), Lutmonhaki Dkhar (Senior Research Fellow), and Wanbiang Dkhar (Project Assistant). Their coordination ensured the smooth conduct of the programme and the effective utilization of resources to achieve the objectives of field monitoring and orchard inspection.
