Awareness and Inputs Distribution Programme cum Exposure visit of Jalkund beneficiaries of FFP adopted village (Mawsiatkhnam) at Umket village, Ribhoi; under Tribal Sub Plan

        The ICAR Research Complex for the North-Eastern Hills Region (NEH), Umiam, Meghalaya, organized an awareness and inputs distribution programme cum exposure visit of jalkund beneficiaries of FFP adopted village (Mawsiatkhnam), East Khasi District Meghalaya. This programme was jointly conducted under the Farmers’ FIRST programme and Tribal Sub Plan (TSP). During this programme jalkund beneficiaries of FFP adopted (Mawsiatkhnam) village visited Umket village (under TSP) to gain practical insights and knowledge regarding jalkund. During the exposure visit the beneficiaries were shown jalkund under different phase i.e., under construction and fully functional. While visiting jalkund in different places under Umket village, the beneficiaries of Mawsaitkhnam were made aware of the site selection, construction steps, maintenance and utilization of jalkund water by Dr. A. Balusamy (Scientist, Environmental Science). They were shown how villager of Umket maintain their jalkund and utilize the harvested water for diverse agricultural and domestic purposes. As a part of the visit a discussion was held with the villager of Umket regarding future line of works to be taken up jointly by ICAR for NEHR and Umket village. Finally inputs (water pump and jalkund) distribution was done by Dr. N. Uttam Singh and Dr. A. Balusamy to selected beneficiaries of Umket village. The programme was coordinated by Dr. N. Uttam Singh (Senior Scientist and Principal Investigator); Dr. A. Balusamy (Scientist, Environmental Science); M. Bishonath Singh (Senior Research Fellow) and Wanbiang Dkhar (Project Assistant).
