An awareness cum input distribution programme for livelihood enhancement of fisherfolk of Meghalaya

        An awareness cum input distribution programme for livelihood enhancement of fisherfolk was organised by ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow in collaboration with ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Umiam at ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya on 31.07.2024. The convener of programme, Dr. U. K. Sarkar, Director, ICAR-NBFGR, appraised the audience with need of such programs and handholding for livelihood enhancement of fishermen community of the region. The chief guest, Dr. A.K. Mohanty, Director, ICAR-ATARI Zone VII, Umiam highlighted establishing a fish seed hub to cater the need of fish farmers of Meghalaya. Guest of honour, Dr. S.K. Das, Principal scientist and In-charge of Fisheries section of the ICAR RC NEHR motivated the farmers to adopt scientific fish farming for enhancing the fish production of the state. A total of 30 fish farmers from Ri Bhoi district, Meghalaya attended the programme and given away the aquaculture related inputs such as fish fingerlings, fish feed etc. The program was attended by scientists from ICAR RC NEHR, Umiam, KVK, Ri Bhoi, KVK, Hailakandi, ICAR-IARI, Assam and ICAR-NBFGR, Lucknow.
