The dart of supply of quality mushroom spawn is the major constraints in round the year mushroom cultivation. Mushroom cultivation is a seasonal activity although cheap raw materials are available and congenial climate conditions prevail in the state. To bridge the gap between growing demand for mushroom spawn and its supply and availability a five days on campus training programme on “Agripreneurship development through mushroom spawn production” was organized under the Tribal Sub Plan project of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region. A total of 10 participants comprising of five youths, from Ri Bhoi and East Khasi Hills which commenced from 18.11.2024 to 22.11.2024. The resource persons urged the youths to imply the skill gained through the training in their future course of action. They were also apprised of the importance of producing quality spawn material in present day context of growing consumer consciousness for healthy food. The trainees were imparted theoretical and practical knowledge on the standard as well as low cost methods of mushroom spawn production. They were provided hands on experience in preparation of tissue culture and substrate; mother spawn and commercial/planting spawn. The training was coordinated by the scientists of the institute Dr. Tasvina R. Borah, Dr. Pampi Paul and Dr. Anjoo Yumnam.
