ICAR- KVK Peren was established on 6th August 2016 becoming the 10th KVK’s in the state of Nagaland, Shri. Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare laid the foundation stone. Officially launched on 8th November 2016 at Tamzaipa Hotel Conference hall by Shri. Rhosietho Ngouri, SDO (Civil) Jalukie Town under the administrative control of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya under ICAR- Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Zone-VII, Umiam, Meghalaya for testing location specific technologies developed by research Institute/Agricultural Universities for large scale demonstration with the capacity building/skill development for farmers, farm women, rural youths, school drop outs and extension functionaries in the district. |

KVK Activities
- Technology dissemination: KVKs disseminate agricultural technologies and innovations to farmers through various means such as demonstrations, trainings, and demonstrate the effectiveness of new agricultural technologies,practices, and crop varieties.

Acheivements
KVK Peren at Jalukie Town is working effortlessly since its inception for the upliftment of the farming community in the district in particular and in the state in general. Assessment and refinement of new technologies were being conducted in different location as per the need of the farmers on priority basis and were demonstrated in larger areas which are suitable for the district. Various programmes such as awareness, trainings and other extension activities are also being conducted as per demand. The major areas of training were on Crop production, Soil Health and Fertility Management, Integrated Nutrient Management, Integrated Pest Management, Integrated Farming System, Disease Management, Crop Diversification, Processing and value addition, Small tools and implements, Management in farm animals, Mushroom cultivation, Vermicomposting, Organic farming, Natural farming, livestock management practices, Nutritional garden, backyard poultry, cultivation of Vegetable crops, Nutrient Use Efficiency, Poultry Management, Fodder production and quality seed production, empowerment of rural women, plant protection, etc. In order to assess the location specific agricultural technologies under various farming systems, On Farm Trials(OFT) were conducted on the farmers’ field under the thematic areas of varietal evaluation, integrated farming systems, integrated nutrient management, storage techniques, farm machineries, etc. To demonstrate the production potential of newly released technologies on the farmers’ fields at various locations, demonstration on cereals, pulses, oilseeds, vegetable crops, fruit crops, plantation crops, fodder crops, livestock, fisheries, feeding management, vaccination, breed performance, etc. were being conducted. The major extension activities include Diagnostic visits, Exposure visits, Scientists visit to farmers’ field, KisanMela, Animal Health Camps, Field Days, Exhibitions, Advisory services, Soil Health Testing Campaigns, Celebration of important days, Film Show, Method demonstrations, Kisan Goshthis, distribution of extension literature like technical bulletins, leaflets, pamphlets, folders, etc.In addition to its mandated activities, KVK Peren is also involved in many external projects and Flagship programmes viz., Skill Development Programme under ASCI, Nutri-sensitive Agricultural Resources and Innovation (NARI), Knowledge Systems and Homestead Management of Agriculture in Tribal Areas (KSHMTA), Swachhta Action Plan, Tribal Sub-Plan programme, Central Sector Scheme-Formation and Promotion of FPOs Project under NCDC, PKVY and Tree Plantation, Farmers’ Outreach Programme on Natural Farming, etc. and also other National flagship programmes which are being assigned to conduct from time to time.

An average yield of 38.30 q/ha was recorded in Peren district with BCR of 2.18. |
